Updated on June 18, 2026
Ladli Laxmi Yojana was launched by the Madhya Pradesh government in 2007 to improve the status of girl children in the state. Families that register their daughters get a total benefit of Rs. 1,43,000 paid at different stages of the girl’s education and life. The scheme now has two versions: the original Ladli Laxmi Yojana and the updated Ladli Laxmi Yojana 2.0.
How Much Money Does the Scheme Give?
The benefit is not paid as a lump sum. It comes in instalments tied to the girl’s education milestones and is designed to keep her in school.
| Stage | Amount |
|---|---|
| Government deposits Rs. 6,000 per year into NSC for 5 years | Rs. 30,000 total in NSC |
| Girl admitted to Class 6 | Rs. 2,000 |
| Girl admitted to Class 9 | Rs. 4,000 |
| Girl admitted to Class 11 | Rs. 6,000 |
| Girl admitted to Class 12 | Rs. 6,000 |
| On turning 21 (if unmarried and Class 12 passed) | Rs. 1,00,000 |
The final payment of Rs. 1,00,000 is the largest and is paid only if the girl has not married before age 18 and has passed Class 12. This condition is built in to discourage child marriage.
Ladli Laxmi Yojana 2.0 – What Changed?
In 2022, the state government extended the scheme with Ladli Laxmi 2.0. The key additions are:
- Higher education support: Girls enrolled in university or college courses get an additional amount per year for two years during their degree.
- Skill development support: Vocational training courses also qualify for the additional benefit under 2.0.
- The original benefit structure remains unchanged.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the last date to register under Ladli Laxmi Yojana?
Registration can be done up to the age of 5 years for the girl child. For girls born after 1 April 2008, registration at the anganwadi within 1 year of birth was mandatory. If you missed the window, contact your local Women and Child Development office to check if there is any relaxation for your case.
Can an orphan girl child benefit from this scheme?
Yes. The guardian or adoptive parent can apply on behalf of an orphan girl child. The scheme does not require both biological parents to be alive.
What happens if the girl gets married before turning 18?
The final payment of Rs. 1,00,000 is cancelled. All earlier instalment payments made at school admission stages remain unaffected. The scheme specifically withholds the final payment to discourage early marriage.
Is the Ladli Laxmi Yojana available in other states?
Several other states have similar girl child welfare schemes with different names, such as Ladli Behna (Haryana) and Bhagya Lakshmi (Karnataka). The Madhya Pradesh scheme is specific to the state and is one of the oldest of its kind in India.
