PMKVY 4.0 Skill Training 2026: Free Certificate Courses with Stipend, Job Placement Support: How to Enrol and Which Trades Are Available

Updated on June 15, 2026

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 (PMKVY 4.0) is the current phase of India’s flagship free skill training programme. It runs from 2022 to 2026. Training is free. You get a stipend during training. After certification, the programme connects you with employers or self-employment support.

PMKVY 4.0 added new courses in Industry 4.0 technologies: AI basics, coding, drone operation, and renewable energy, alongside the existing trades like beauty therapy, construction work, retail, healthcare, and hospitality.

What Training Costs You

Nothing. The central government pays the training centre. You pay zero fees.

During training you receive a stipend of Rs 500 per week to cover food and travel. Stipend is paid directly to your bank account.

After completing the course and passing the assessment, you get a National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) certificate. This certificate is recognised by employers across India.

Course Duration

Most PMKVY short-term courses run from 150 to 300 hours, roughly 3 weeks to 3 months depending on the trade.

New-age courses in AI, coding, and industry automation tend to be 200-300 hours. Traditional trades like tailoring, welding, and plumbing tend to be 150-200 hours.

Courses run daily for 4-6 hours. Some training centres offer weekend-only batches for people who cannot leave their current work.

Who Can Enrol

Age: 15 to 45 years. Some states extend the upper limit to 59.

Education: No minimum qualification for most courses. Some technical courses require 10th pass.

Indian citizen.

Must not already be enrolled in a full-time school or college.

Priority is given to school dropouts, rural youth, women, SC/ST/OBC candidates, and persons with disabilities.

Available Trades (Sample List)

Technology: AI basics, coding for beginners, drone pilot training, cybersecurity basics, solar panel installation.

Healthcare: General duty assistant, home health aide, medical records technician, optical lens technician.

Construction: Plumbing, electrician, masonry, carpentry, interior finishing.

Beauty and wellness: Beauty therapist, hair stylist, spa therapist, yoga trainer.

Retail and hospitality: Retail sales associate, food and beverage service, housekeeping, front desk executive.

Apparel and textiles: Sewing machine operator, garment quality checker, fashion design assistant.

Agriculture: Organic farming technician, poultry management, dairy technician.

How to Enrol

Online:

Go to skillindiadigital.gov.in. Register with your Aadhaar. Search for courses available in your district. Select a training centre and batch. The system confirms your enrolment.

Offline:

Visit a PMKVY-empanelled training centre in your area. You can find the nearest one on the Skill India portal. Walk in and ask about current batches.

Through CSC:

Common Service Centres help with registration. Carry your Aadhaar and bank passbook.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

If you already know a trade from years of work experience but have no formal certificate, PMKVY 4.0 offers RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning), you get assessed and certified without attending a full course.

Trades eligible for RPL: construction (mason, carpenter, electrician), beauty (experienced beauticians), tailoring, agriculture, and over 200 other trades.

RPL assessment takes 1-2 days. You receive the same NSQF certificate as a fresh trainee. The certificate matters for bank loans, government contracts, and employer hiring.

Placement Support After Certificate

Training centres empanelled under PMKVY must provide placement assistance. After certification, they are required to:

Run placement drives with employer partners. Connect certified youth with apprenticeship portals at apprenticeshipindia.org. Provide self-employment counselling for those who want to start their own business.

Placement rate varies widely by course and location. Technical courses in solar, healthcare, and IT support tend to have better outcomes. Ask the training centre about their placement history for the specific course before enrolling.

PMKVY and PM Vishwakarma: Different Paths to Skill Development

PMKVY is broad-based skill training for all youth. PM Vishwakarma is specific to 18 traditional artisan trades with additional loan and toolkit benefits for people already practicing those trades.

If you are a young person entering a new trade: PMKVY is the right starting point.

If you are an established artisan (weaver, blacksmith, potter, etc.) looking to formalise skills and access credit: PM Vishwakarma is more appropriate. Guide at indiansouls.in/startup/pm-vishwakarma-yojana-guide/.

For young people in Delhi also looking at free coaching for competitive exams, check whether your state has similar coaching schemes. Students who want education loans after skill training can look at PM Vidyalaxmi at indiansouls.in/pm-vidyalaxmi-scheme-2026/.

Urban youth who already have a skill and want working capital for a small business should look at PM SVANidhi (street vendors) or PM Mudra. Links at indiansouls.in/pm-svanidhi-scheme-2026/ and indiansouls.in/pm-mudra-yojana/.
