If you have missed a PM Kisan Samman Nidhi instalment, the most common reason is incomplete eKYC. The government made eKYC mandatory for all beneficiaries in 2022 to weed out ineligible farmers from the database. Without it, your instalments are paused regardless of how long you have been on the scheme.
This guide covers both methods for completing eKYC and shows you exactly how to check whether yours is done.
Why eKYC Is Required for PM Kisan
PM Kisan Samman Nidhi transfers Rs. 6,000 per year directly to enrolled farmers. The eKYC step links your Aadhaar biometric or OTP verification to your registered PM Kisan account. This confirms you are a real, living, eligible person and prevents duplicate or ghost entries from receiving money.
Without eKYC, your name stays in the system but payments stop. Completing it takes less than 5 minutes online if your Aadhaar is linked to your mobile number.
Two Ways to Complete PM Kisan eKYC
Method 1: OTP-Based eKYC (Online, on Your Phone)
This method works only if your Aadhaar number is linked to your registered mobile number. If you get OTPs on your phone from Aadhaar services, you can do this.
- Go to pmkisan.gov.in on your phone or computer.
- Click on “eKYC” in the top menu or the Farmers Corner section.
- Enter your Aadhaar number and click “Search”.
- An OTP is sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
- Enter the OTP in the field provided.
- A success message appears: “eKYC Done Successfully”.
The entire process takes about 2 minutes. Do not close the browser while the OTP is being sent.
Method 2: Biometric eKYC at a CSC Centre
Use this method if your Aadhaar is not linked to a mobile number, or if the OTP method fails repeatedly.
- Find your nearest CSC (Common Service Centre) by visiting locator.csccloud.in.
- Carry your Aadhaar card and the mobile number registered under PM Kisan.
- The CSC operator will verify your fingerprint or iris using a biometric device against your Aadhaar records.
- Once matched, eKYC is updated in the PM Kisan database within 24 to 72 hours.
CSC biometric eKYC is free of charge. Do not pay any fees to the operator for this service.
How to Check PM Kisan eKYC Status
- Go to pmkisan.gov.in.
- Click “Beneficiary Status” under Farmers Corner.
- Enter your registered mobile number or Aadhaar number.
- Click “Get Data”.
- On the beneficiary details page, look for the “eKYC Status” field. It should read “Done” or “Authenticated”.
If it shows “Pending” or is blank, your eKYC is not complete and you need to follow Method 1 or Method 2 above.
Common Problems and How to Fix Them
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| OTP not received | Check if your Aadhaar is linked to your current mobile number. Update at an Aadhaar centre if not. |
| “Aadhaar number not found” error | Your registered Aadhaar may differ from what you entered. Check your beneficiary details on the portal first. |
| eKYC shows Done but instalment still not received | Check that land seeding and bank account verification are also complete under Beneficiary Status. |
| Biometric failure at CSC | Try a different finger or request iris scan. Very calloused fingers sometimes fail fingerprint match. |
Other Things to Check Along with eKYC
eKYC alone does not guarantee your instalment. All three of these must show “Done” in your Beneficiary Status:
- eKYC Status: Done.
- Aadhar Bank Seeding Status: Verified (Aadhaar linked to your bank account).
- Land Seeding Status: Seeded (your land records verified by the state government).
If any of these three is pending, contact your local patwari or agriculture department block office to fix it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to do eKYC every year?
Currently, eKYC is a one-time process. Once completed, it remains valid unless the government issues a fresh directive. However, check the PM Kisan portal before each instalment cycle to confirm no new requirements have been added.
Can I do eKYC at my bank branch?
Some banks that are CSC partners offer this service, but it is not available at all branch counters. A dedicated CSC centre is the safest option for biometric eKYC.
My eKYC is done but my name is not on the beneficiary list. What should I do?
This is likely a registration issue, not an eKYC issue. Contact your local Agriculture Department or visit pmkisan.gov.in and use the “New Farmer Registration” section to check if your application was rejected and why.
