ESIC Card Download, Benefits and Hospital List for Workers

Updated on June 19, 2026

The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) provides medical care, cash benefits during sickness, maternity support, and disability compensation to workers earning below a specified wage limit. If your monthly gross salary is up to Rs. 21,000 (Rs. 25,000 for persons with disability) and your employer is registered under the ESI Act, you and your dependents are entitled to near-complete medical coverage at ESIC hospitals and dispensaries, often at no cost.

Who Is Covered Under ESI?

  • Employees in factories and establishments with 10 or more workers (20 in some states) covered under the ESI Act.
  • Gross monthly wage up to Rs. 21,000 (Rs. 25,000 for persons with disability).
  • Covers permanent, casual, and contract workers, as long as the establishment is registered under ESI.
  • Dependent family members of the insured person (spouse, children, and dependent parents) also receive medical benefits.

Contribution Rate

Contributor Rate
Employee 0.75% of gross wages
Employer 3.25% of gross wages

The employee’s share is deducted directly from the salary each month, and the employer adds their contribution before depositing the combined amount with ESIC.

How to Get Your ESIC Card (e-Pehchan Card)

Your employer registers you under ESI at the time of joining by entering your details on the ESIC employer portal. Once registered, you receive a 10-digit Insurance Number, and the e-Pehchan Card (the digital ESIC identity card) becomes available for download.

  1. Go to esic.gov.in and click “Insured Person Login” under Login section, or directly visit the Insured Person portal.
  2. Log in using your Insurance Number and the password (initially set by your employer or provided via SMS).
  3. Once logged in, go to “e-Pehchan Card” in the menu.
  4. Your card and that of your registered dependents will be available to view and download as a PDF.
  5. Print the card. It includes your photograph, Insurance Number, and the details of your dependents covered under the policy.

Until the printed card arrives or is downloaded, you can use the temporary identification slip issued at the time of registration, along with your Aadhaar, to access ESIC hospital services.

Medical Benefits Under ESI

  • Outpatient and inpatient treatment: Free treatment at ESIC dispensaries and hospitals, including consultation, medicines, diagnostic tests, and hospitalisation.
  • Specialist and surgical care: Coverage extends to specialist consultations and major surgeries when referred through the ESIC system.
  • Maternity benefit: Cash benefit for 26 weeks of leave during pregnancy and childbirth, paid at full average daily wage.
  • Sickness benefit: Cash compensation of around 70% of average daily wages during certified sick leave (up to 91 days in a benefit period).
  • Disablement benefit: Compensation for temporary or permanent disability arising from employment injury.
  • Dependent benefit: Monthly pension to dependents if the insured person dies due to an employment injury.
  • Funeral expenses: A lump sum amount paid to the family for funeral expenses on the death of the insured person.

How to Find an ESIC Hospital or Dispensary Near You

  1. Visit esic.gov.in and go to “Hospitals” under the Information section.
  2. Select your state and district.
  3. A list of ESIC hospitals, dispensaries, and empanelled private hospitals in your area appears with addresses and contact numbers.

You can also use the ESIC mobile app to locate the nearest facility using your phone’s GPS location.

How to Claim Cash Benefits (Sickness, Maternity, Disability)

  1. Obtain a medical certificate from an ESIC-authorised doctor confirming your condition.
  2. Submit the certificate along with the relevant claim form (available at the ESIC branch office or download from the website) within the prescribed time limit.
  3. The ESIC branch office processes the claim and credits the cash benefit directly to your bank account.

For most claims, registering your bank account details on the ESIC portal in advance speeds up disbursement significantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

I changed jobs. Do I get a new Insurance Number?

No. Your ESIC Insurance Number is permanent and stays with you across employers for life. When you join a new ESI-covered establishment, your new employer simply links your existing Insurance Number to the new employment record. Do not apply for a fresh number.

Can I use ESIC benefits if I leave my job?

You can continue to receive medical benefits for a limited period after leaving employment under certain conditions, such as if you have contributed for a minimum period before becoming unemployed. There is also a specific Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojana that provides unemployment allowance and continued medical benefits to ESI-insured persons who lose their job involuntarily, subject to eligibility conditions.

My e-Pehchan Card download shows an error. What should I do?

Confirm that your employer has completed your ESI registration and contribution submission for the relevant period; a delay on the employer’s end is the most common reason for card unavailability. If registration is confirmed complete, contact your nearest ESIC branch office with your Insurance Number for manual verification and card issuance.
