Voter ID Card Download Online (e-EPIC) – Complete Guide

Updated on June 19, 2026

The Election Commission of India introduced the digital Voter ID Card, called e-EPIC (Electronic Electoral Photo Identity Card), so that voters no longer need to wait weeks for a physical card to arrive by post or visit an office to collect a duplicate if theirs is lost or damaged. The e-EPIC is a legally valid, secure PDF version of your voter ID that you can download, save, and print whenever needed.

What Is e-EPIC and How Is It Different From the Physical Card?

e-EPIC is a digitally signed, non-editable PDF version of your Voter ID Card. It carries the same details as your physical card: name, photograph, EPIC number, address, and assembly constituency, along with a QR code that allows quick verification of authenticity. It is accepted as a valid identity and address proof document wherever the physical Voter ID Card is accepted, including for voting at the polling booth (alongside the existing physical card if you already have one, or as a standalone identity document if you have not yet received the physical card).

Who Can Download e-EPIC?

  • Voters whose mobile number is linked to their EPIC (Voter ID) record can download it directly.
  • New voters who registered recently and whose application has been approved can download their e-EPIC once the application status shows “Accepted”.
  • Existing voters who have not yet linked their mobile number need to complete this step first before downloading.

Step-by-Step: Download Voter ID Online via Voter Helpline App

  1. Download the “Voter Helpline” app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, published by the Election Commission of India.
  2. Open the app and tap “Login / Register”. Create an account using your mobile number, verified by OTP.
  3. Once logged in, tap “e-EPIC Download” on the home screen.
  4. Enter your EPIC number (printed on your existing card) or search using your name, date of birth, and state to locate your record.
  5. If your mobile number is already linked to the EPIC, an OTP is sent for final verification.
  6. Once verified, your e-EPIC PDF becomes available for download. Tap “Download” to save it to your phone.
  7. The PDF is password-protected; the password is typically the first 4 letters of your name in capital letters followed by your year of birth (the app shows the exact format on screen).

Step-by-Step: Download Voter ID Online via Website

  1. Visit voters.eci.gov.in.
  2. Click “e-EPIC Download” on the home page.
  3. Log in using your mobile number and OTP, or create a new account if you have not registered on the portal before.
  4. Search for your EPIC record using your EPIC number, or your name and other details if you do not know the number.
  5. Verify with OTP sent to your linked mobile number.
  6. Download the PDF once the system confirms your identity matches the record.

What If Your Mobile Number Is Not Linked to Your EPIC?

If the system shows that your mobile number does not match the one on record, you cannot directly download the e-EPIC through OTP verification. In this case:

  1. Go to the Voter Helpline app or voters.eci.gov.in and use Form 8 (correction form) to update your mobile number against your existing EPIC record.
  2. Submit the form with your EPIC number and the correct mobile number.
  3. The Booth Level Officer (BLO) or Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) verifies and approves the update, usually within a few days to a couple of weeks.
  4. Once approved, you can return to the e-EPIC download section and complete the process with OTP verification on the newly linked number.

Documents and Information You Need

  • EPIC number (the 10-character alphanumeric code on your existing physical Voter ID, e.g., ABC1234567).
  • Registered or to-be-registered mobile number for OTP verification.
  • If you do not know your EPIC number, your full name, father’s/husband’s name, date of birth, and state/constituency to search the electoral roll.

How to Find Your EPIC Number If You Have Lost Your Physical Card

  1. Go to voters.eci.gov.in and click “Search in Electoral Roll”.
  2. Choose to search by Details (name, age, gender, state, district, assembly constituency) instead of EPIC number.
  3. Fill in the matching details as accurately as possible.
  4. The system displays your record along with your EPIC number, which you can then use to proceed with the e-EPIC download.

Printing Your e-EPIC

Once downloaded, the e-EPIC PDF is print-ready. Use a colour printer for the best result, since the photograph and QR code are important elements of the card’s authenticity verification. Many people choose to laminate the printed e-EPIC for durability, similar to how the physical card is often protected.

How New Voters Get Their e-EPIC for the First Time

If you have just registered to vote for the first time using Form 6 on the Voter Helpline app or NVSP portal:

  1. Track your application status using the reference ID provided at the time of submission.
  2. Once the Booth Level Officer verifies your application and the Electoral Registration Officer approves it, your status changes to “Accepted” and an EPIC number is generated.
  3. You will typically receive an SMS notification once your application is approved.
  4. You can then proceed to download your e-EPIC immediately through the app or website, even before any physical card arrives by post.

This is one of the biggest advantages of e-EPIC: new voters get instant digital access to their voter ID rather than waiting weeks or months for the physical card to be printed and delivered.

Using e-EPIC for Identity Verification

The e-EPIC carries a QR code that, when scanned by an authorised verification app, confirms the authenticity of the document and matches it against the official electoral database. This makes it a reliable identity document for various purposes including bank KYC, mobile SIM card issuance, and other identity verification processes that traditionally accepted the physical Voter ID Card.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I download e-EPIC for a family member using my own mobile number?

You can search for and view any voter’s basic electoral roll entry using the public search feature, but downloading the actual e-EPIC PDF requires OTP verification sent specifically to the mobile number linked with that particular EPIC record. You cannot download another person’s e-EPIC using your own mobile OTP unless their mobile number happens to be the one registered against their EPIC, and even then the OTP needs to be entered by whoever has access to that phone.

Is there a limit on how many times I can download my e-EPIC?

No, there is no restriction on the number of times you can download your own e-EPIC once your identity is verified through OTP. You can re-download it anytime you need a fresh copy, whether your previous download was lost, deleted, or you simply need another copy for a new purpose.

I moved to a new address. Does downloading e-EPIC update my address automatically?

No. Downloading the e-EPIC only generates the digital version of your existing electoral roll record; it does not update your address. If you have moved, you need to file Form 8 to update your address details or transfer your registration to your new constituency. Once that update is approved, your e-EPIC will reflect the corrected address when you download it next.
