Karnataka’s Gruha Lakshmi Yojana pays Rs 2,000 per month to the woman head of family in BPL and APL households holding a ration card. The money goes directly into the woman’s bank account through DBT. Over 1.24 crore women in Karnataka are enrolled.
It is one of the five guarantee schemes the current Karnataka government launched after coming to power in 2023. The other four are Shakti (free bus travel for women), Anna Bhagya (free rice), Yuva Nidhi (unemployment allowance for graduates), and Griha Jyothi (200 units free electricity).
Who Gets Paid
The woman head of the family, specifically, the woman whose name appears on the family’s ration card as the head.
If your ration card shows a male head of family, the woman in that household does not receive Gruha Lakshmi directly. The scheme is tied to ration card headship.
To shift ration card headship to the woman in your family, visit your nearest Food Security office (rationing office) and submit an application. This is a separate process but important if you want to access Gruha Lakshmi.
Eligibility
Must hold a valid Karnataka ration card (white, pink, or green, all APL and BPL categories qualify).
The woman must be the head of the family as per ration card records.
Income exclusions: Families where any member earns more than Rs 2 lakh per annum (for APL) or who are income tax payers are generally excluded.
Government employees with regular salaries and pensioners above Rs 10,000 per month: excluded.
How to Apply
Online: sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in
Register with your mobile number. Fill in ration card details and bank account (must be in the woman’s name).
Upload: ration card (showing woman as head), Aadhaar of the woman, bank passbook.
Offline: Visit your nearest Nadakacheri (revenue office) or Gram Panchayat. Seva Sindhu centres and government offices assist with applications.
After submission, you get an application number. Track status on Seva Sindhu.
Why Payments Stop: And What to Do
Aadhaar-bank mismatch: Your bank account must be Aadhaar-linked and NPCI-mapped for DBT. If either is broken, payment fails. Fix: Visit your bank with your Aadhaar card. Ask for “Aadhaar seeding” and “NPCI mapper activation.”
Ration card changes: If the ration card head was changed or the card was renewed without updating the scheme records, payment may pause. Revisit your Nadakacheri with the updated ration card.
Inactive bank account: Accounts with no transactions in over 12 months become dormant. Reactivate at your bank with a deposit or withdrawal.
e-KYC overdue: Karnataka periodically requires e-KYC re-verification for Gruha Lakshmi. Check your Seva Sindhu account for pending e-KYC alerts.
Checking Your Payment Status
Log in to sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in with your application number or Aadhaar.
Your dashboard shows all past payments and the next expected payment date.
You can also call the Gruha Lakshmi helpline at 1902 (Karnataka government public services helpline).
Gruha Lakshmi and the Other Four Guarantees Together
If you are in Karnataka and a woman head of family, you could potentially access all five guarantees:
Gruha Lakshmi: Rs 2,000 per month cash. Anna Bhagya: Up to 10 kg free rice per family member. Gruha Jyothi: 200 units free electricity per month. Shakti: Free travel on KSRTC, BMTC, NMMT, NEKRTC, and NWKRTC buses. Yuva Nidhi: Rs 3,000 per month for unemployed graduates (or Rs 1,500 for diploma holders).
None of these conflict with each other. A family can receive all five simultaneously if eligible.
How This Compares to Other State Women’s Schemes
Gruha Lakshmi at Rs 2,000 is among the higher monthly transfers nationally, behind West Bengal’s Annapurna Yojana at Rs 3,000. The full Annapurna guide is at indiansouls.in/annapurna-yojana-2026/.
For women in Karnataka also interested in insurance protection, the central PMJJBY scheme (Rs 2 lakh life cover at Rs 436/year) stacks well on top of Gruha Lakshmi. Guide at indiansouls.in/finance/pmjjby-and-pmsby-government-schemes/.
