PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana is a new central government agriculture scheme announced in Union Budget 2025-26. Work started in 2025-26 across 100 selected districts. The scheme targets districts where farm productivity is low, cropping intensity is poor, and farmers have limited access to credit.
If your district is among the 100 selected ones, here is what changes for farmers there.
What the Scheme Is Trying to Fix
India has a wide productivity gap between its best and worst agricultural districts. A farmer in Punjab growing wheat yields three to four times more per acre than a farmer growing the same crop in parts of Bihar or Odisha. The gap is not just about rainfall. It is about soil health, irrigation access, quality seeds, credit availability, and extension services reaching the farmer.
PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana puts targeted resources into the 100 districts where these gaps are the worst. The idea: fix the weakest 100 districts and you fix the floor for Indian agriculture.
Which 100 Districts Are Included?
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare identified the 100 districts using data from three indicators: crop yield per hectare, cropping intensity (how many crops a farmer grows per year), and credit flow to farmers.
The official list was published with the scheme notification. States with the most included districts include Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Odisha. A few districts from Assam, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra are also on the list.
To check if your district is included: visit the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana page on the agriculture ministry portal at agricoop.nic.in, or check with your nearest Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) or Block Agriculture Officer.
What Farmers in These Districts Get
Better seeds at subsidised rates. The scheme channels certified high-yielding variety seeds through state agriculture departments directly to farmers in included districts. You collect these from the Block Agriculture Office or through farmer producer organisations (FPOs) in your area.
Soil health cards and soil testing. The scheme speeds up soil health card distribution in included districts. Knowing your soil’s nutrient profile lets you use fertilisers more precisely, less spending, better yields.
Crop loans up to Rs 3 lakh at 4% effective interest rate. The central government’s existing interest subvention scheme applies, and banks in included districts are directed to increase credit flow to farmers. If your bank has been rejecting your Kisan Credit Card application in an included district, report it to your District Lead Bank Manager.
Irrigation infrastructure support. Districts that lack canal coverage or have poor groundwater access get priority under PM Sinchai Yojana funding routed through this scheme. Check with your Block Agriculture Officer whether any new pump sets or water source projects are planned in your village.
Agriculture extension visits. More field visits from agricultural officers, more demonstration plots, and more direct advisory to farmers on pest management and crop planning.
How to Access These Benefits
You do not fill a separate application form for most PM Dhan Dhanya benefits. The scheme works through existing government machinery, your KVK, Block Agriculture Office, and local bank branch.
Go to your Block Agriculture Office and tell them your district is included in PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana. Ask specifically: what seed distribution has happened, when is the next soil testing camp, and which bank in the district is the nodal bank for increased credit flow under the scheme.
For crop loans, go to the bank where you hold a Kisan Credit Card or where your land records are registered. Ask the branch manager whether the district’s credit target under PM Dhan Dhanya has been communicated and when disbursals will happen.
FPOs and Their Role Under This Scheme
The scheme specifically uses Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) as distribution channels in included districts. An FPO is a collective of farmers registered as a company, they negotiate better prices for inputs, access government subsidies collectively, and sell produce at better rates.
If your village does not have an FPO yet, the scheme supports forming new ones. Contact your nearest NABARD district office or your state’s agriculture department to understand how to register a new FPO in your area.
Connection to PM-KISAN
Farmers in the 100 included districts still need their PM-KISAN e-KYC to be current to receive that separate payment. PM Dhan Dhanya does not replace PM-KISAN. They are parallel schemes from the same ministry.
If you are in an included district and your PM-KISAN e-KYC is pending, complete it at pmkisan.gov.in first. Then follow up with the Block Agriculture Office on Dhan Dhanya benefits.
What Has Actually Happened on the Ground So Far?
Work under this scheme started in 2025-26, so some implementation has already happened in included districts. Field reports indicate that soil testing camps have run in most included districts, and seed distribution through state agriculture departments is underway.
Credit flow improvement is slower. Banks in low-productivity districts typically have risk concerns about agricultural lending, and the scheme’s directives alone do not instantly change that. If you face credit rejection in an included district, the Agriculture Department’s district office has a grievance channel for exactly this.
