Maharashtra Farm Loan Waiver 2026: Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karjmafi Yojana, 56 Lakh Farmers, Rs 2 Lakh Relief, How to Check Your Name

Updated on June 14, 2026

Maharashtra announced a farm loan waiver in 2026 under the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karjmafi Yojana. The scheme covers short-term crop loans up to Rs 2 lakh per farmer. Around 56 lakh farmers are expected to benefit.

If you are a farmer in Maharashtra with an outstanding crop loan from a cooperative bank or a scheduled commercial bank, here is what you need to know: who qualifies, what the actual waiver covers, how to check if your name is on the list, and what to do if it is not.

What Does the Scheme Actually Waive?

The waiver covers short-term agricultural loans (commonly called crop loans or Kisan Credit Card loans) taken for cultivation purposes. The maximum waiver per farmer is Rs 2 lakh.

If your outstanding loan is less than Rs 2 lakh, the full amount is waived. If it is more than Rs 2 lakh, the scheme covers Rs 2 lakh and you remain responsible for the rest.

The loan must have been taken from a cooperative bank, scheduled commercial bank, or Regional Rural Bank (RRB) operating in Maharashtra. Private moneylenders and informal loans are not covered.

Important: The waiver is on the principal plus accrued interest up to a cutoff date. The government has not published the exact cutoff date for 2026 in the initial announcement, this will come in the operational guidelines, which are expected within 30 to 60 days of the scheme notification.

Who Is Eligible?

Loan type: Short-term crop loan (KCC loans, seasonal agricultural loans). Long-term loans for land purchase, equipment, or irrigation do not qualify.

Loan account: The account must be in the farmer’s own name or jointly with a family member. Loans in a company or partnership name are not covered.

Land ownership: You must be a farmer cultivating your own land or land taken on a formal lease. Sharecroppers on informal arrangements typically do not qualify unless they can show a registered lease.

Loan status: The loan must be an NPA (Non-Performing Asset) or an overdue loan as of the cutoff date. Loans already fully repaid are not eligible for waiver, which is also a common frustration among farmers who paid on time and now watch neighbors get relief.

One farmer, one waiver: Only one loan account per farmer is covered, even if the farmer has loans from multiple banks.

56 Lakh Farmers: How Was This Number Arrived At?

The state government pulled this figure from the database of farmers with outstanding NPA crop loans across Maharashtra’s cooperative banking system and scheduled banks. The Agriculture Relief Commission and the Maharashtra Cooperative Bank federation submitted this count to the Cabinet.

It is an estimate. The actual number of verified beneficiaries may be slightly higher or lower after each bank reconciles its data against the government’s farmer registry. Historically in Maharashtra, the final verified count in loan waivers comes out 10 to 15% below the initial announced figure because some loans do not meet the technical eligibility criteria when examined closely.

How to Check If Your Name Is on the List

The beneficiary list will be published on the Maharashtra government’s official portal at krishi.maharashtra.gov.in and on the cooperative bank portals once the bank-wise data reconciliation is complete.

To check:

1. Go to krishi.maharashtra.gov.in 2. Look for the “Shetkari Karjmafi Yojana 2026” section 3. Enter your Aadhaar number or your loan account number 4. Your eligibility and waiver amount will show if your data has been processed

If the portal is not yet showing results (it may take 4 to 8 weeks from the official announcement), go to your cooperative bank or the bank where you hold the crop loan account. Ask the branch manager whether your account has been flagged for inclusion in the waiver scheme.

How the Money Actually Reaches You

The government does not give you cash. The waiver amount is credited directly to your loan account at the bank. The bank then marks that portion of your outstanding loan as settled.

If your loan was Rs 1.8 lakh and the waiver covers the full amount, your loan account shows zero balance after the credit. If it was Rs 2.5 lakh, the account will show an outstanding balance of Rs 50,000 after the waiver amount is applied.

After the waiver is credited, you receive a fresh loan eligibility. This means farmers who were stuck with NPA status and could not access new crop loans can now borrow again for the next season.

My Name Is Not on the List: What Do I Do?

First, check with your bank. Sometimes the farmer’s Aadhaar is not linked to the loan account, which means the system cannot verify eligibility. Take your Aadhaar and your loan account number to the bank and ask them to link it.

Second, check whether your loan category is correct. If your bank classified the loan as a term loan rather than a crop loan, it will not appear in the scheme database even if the money was actually used for cultivation. You can request a reclassification, but it requires supporting documents (loan application copy, purpose stated at the time of disbursement).

Third, file a grievance. The Maharashtra government will set up a dedicated grievance mechanism for the scheme. In previous loan waiver cycles (like the 2017 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Shetkari Sanman Yojana), the grievance portal was operated through the District Collector’s office. Expect a similar structure this time.

Previous Maharashtra Loan Waivers: What Can We Learn?

Maharashtra has done this before. The 2017 waiver was for Rs 34,000 crore and was one of the largest in the country at the time. The 2019 cycle added more farmers. Each time, three problems showed up repeatedly.

The Aadhaar-bank linkage issue blocked thousands of farmers who were eligible but could not be verified digitally. The fix was to allow manual verification through the Tehsildar. Watch for whether the 2026 scheme offers the same fallback.

The definition of “short-term crop loan” was applied inconsistently by different banks. Farmers who borrowed through the Kisan Credit Card but used it for purposes other than the immediate crop season sometimes found their loans excluded. Keep documentation of how you used your KCC.

Payment delays were common. The 2017 waiver took over a year for some farmers to see the credit in their accounts. Budget release from the state treasury and bank processing created bottlenecks. Do not assume your loan is cleared until you have a written confirmation from your bank.

Toll-Free Helpline

The state government typically sets up a toll-free helpline for loan waiver queries. As of mid-June 2026, the dedicated number for Karjmafi Yojana 2026 has not been published. The general Krishi helpline is 1800-233-4000.

Check the Maharashtra government’s official portal and the Agriculture Department’s social media handles for the dedicated helpline number once operational guidelines are published.

Summary

If you have an outstanding crop loan in Maharashtra under Rs 2 lakh, you are likely in scope for this waiver. Link your Aadhaar to your loan account now if you have not already. Check the beneficiary list on krishi.maharashtra.gov.in once it goes live. And keep your loan documents ready, account number, disbursement date, loan purpose, in case you need to raise a grievance.

The money does not come to you directly. It credits to your loan account. Your job right now is to make sure the bank has correct information on file so the credit lands without a problem.
