PM Vishwakarma Yojana Complete Guide : Scheme Overview, Objectives & Eligibility

Updated on November 4, 2025

The PM Vishwakarma Yojana is a flagship initiative by the Government of India aimed at empowering traditional artisans and craftspeople. Designed to provide holistic support and recognition, this scheme bridges the gap between tradition and modernity by promoting indigenous skills, boosting income opportunities, and facilitating access to credit and markets.

Message from Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi

“Traditionally, crores of ‘Vishwakarmas’ who create something or the other by working hard with their hands, tools and equipment are the builders of this country. We have a huge list of countless people like the blacksmiths, goldsmiths, potters, carpenters, sculptors, artisans, masons etc. PM Vishwakarma will bring a sea of changes in the lives of crores of Vishwakarmas.”

– Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister

PM Vishwakarma Yojana Objectives

The PM Vishwakarma Yojana aims to uplift the livelihoods of traditional artisans and craftspeople through structured interventions. The key objectives are:

  1. Recognition of Artisans and Craftspeople
To officially recognize traditional artisans and craftspeople as “Vishwakarmas”, making them eligible to avail themselves of all the benefits under the scheme.
  2. Skill Upgradation
To provide advanced training and skill development to make traditional skills more relevant, refined, and market-oriented.
  3. Access to Modern Tools
To support artisans with better tools and equipment, enhancing their productivity, capabilities, and the overall quality of products.
  4. Collateral-Free Credit
To ensure easy access to loans without collateral, and reduce the cost of borrowing through interest subvention.
  5. Digital Empowerment
To incentivize digital transactions and promote digital literacy and empowerment among Vishwakarmas.
  6. Brand Promotion and Market Linkage
To help artisans access new markets and branding opportunities for growth.

PM Vishwakarma Yojana Eligibility Criteria

The Vishwakarma Yojana outlines specific eligibility conditions to ensure support reaches the right beneficiaries:

  2. Minimum Age
The applicant must be at least 18 years old at the time of registration.
  3. Trade Engagement
The artisan must be actively engaged in their trade and must not have availed loans under similar credit-based schemes such as PMEGP, PM SVANidhi, or MUDRA within the last five years.
  4. One Beneficiary per Family
Only one eligible member per family (defined as husband, wife, and unmarried children) can benefit from the scheme.
  5. Exclusion for Government Employees
Government employees and their family members are not eligible under the PM Vishwakarma Yojana.
